Lake Worth Street Painting Festival
The great tradition of street painting began in Italy in the 16th century. A crowd would gather whenever an itinerant artist used his chalks to turn the ordinary pavement into a fine work of art. Although the "painting" would only last until the next rain, the tradition of street painting has endured more than 400 years. Watch as more than 400 artists use the pavement as canvas to transform downtown Lake Worth into a temporary outdoor museum of original art and masterpiece reproductions. The downtown streets will be brimming with more than 200 street paintings, sponsored by businesses, organizations, and individuals.
This 13th annual festival will also include strolling minstrels, jazz, classical music, dance, theater, improvisation and an array of street side cafes. The Young Artist Studio features the street paintings of Palm Beach County elementary, middle, and high school students. There will also be continuous live entertainment at the Cultural Plaza's Mainstage; jazz-fusion guitarist Frank Axtell performs with his ensemble on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 4 p.m.
